Outreach Teams

Weekly Outreaches:
Big Brothers Big Sisters: Become a Big Bro or Big Sis by serving as a mentor for a deserving child at a local elementary school.
M-F, 8am - 3:30 pm
*(1 hr weekly commitment)

Children's Medical Center: Spend time with children who come from abusive or troubled backgrounds. This outreach gives volunteers the opportunity to interact not only with children, but also newborns from an unhealthy environment.
M,W,F, 6:45pm - 8pm

Habitat for Humanity: Experience the practical approach of building homes in order to help eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the Tulsa area and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Sat, 9am - 12pm

International Connection: ORU students will build friendships with foreign students who are enrolled in the University Language Institute. Volunteers assist the students in their transition to a new environment by tutoring them in English and giving them a warm welcome to American culture.
Wed, 2 - 3 pm, Thurs, 12 - 1 pm

Lloyd Rader: Reach out to young men ages 14-18 at a juvenile correctional facility. Build relationships with and help mentor these young men, while displaying what the love of Christ really looks like.

Project Centers:
Tulsa Hope Academy: A faith based Alternative & Preparatory High School that develops youth with a global vision through an individualized, technology-driven education. Tulsa Hope Academy offers a second chance for struggling students to earn their high school diploma, knowing that with support and an encouraging environment, these at-risk teens can go on to a promising future.

West Side Harvest Market: This market/community center is located in a low-income neighborhood and provides the practical needs of food and other goods at an affordable price. There is an in-store café where volunteers can build relationships with customers. Clinics on budgeting and dieting can easily be administered in the open rooms connected to the grocery store.

South Peoria Neighborhood House: This is a project center devoted to helping the people in the South Peoria community. They help the at-risk-community get a vision for the future through various practical applications, including after-school tutoring and mentoring.

Tulsa Dream Center: The Tulsa Dream Center serves the North Tulsa community by providing much needed services to those with a lower income by offering programs such as health clinics, academic and athletic after school programs for children, and practical training classes for adults.

All-School Outreaches:
1000 LIVES Campaign: Be a hero and join ORU Outreach’s “Thousand Lives Campaign” by being one of 500 students who make the choice to donate blood this year. For every person that gives blood, two lives can be saved. Sign up at any of our advertised American Red Cross on-campus drives this year to donate blood.

FALL OUTREACH: Every October 31st, the ORU body comes together for one night to fight hunger in Tulsa. Join your floor and friends to collect cans for the homeless, followed by an after party hosted by SA.

SPRING OUTREACH “LAUNCH”: One Saturday in the Spring semester where many different areas and departments of ORU come together at one of our Project Centers to make a difference in the community through various practical and spiritual opportunities.
